three uneasy pieces
by a gram bail

complex
dynamic
simultaneously pushing
you away
being afraid you'd
leave
when you go
resenting you
saying, "see,
i was right:
i knew she'd leave"
it's silly
mean, really
to never trust
not just love

i woke in the night
to a dream of you
sleeping with him
i couldn't sleep
your arm across his chest
happy dreams
in your head
and his
he must love you
be in love with you
you are such
a strong attraction
your loud love
could start wars

    tiny cluttered boxes
alone
voice next door
sounds like a friend
across town
a song i've never heard
with you
wanting
gone
imperfectly sad-happy
pink-fleshed
and soft
your eyes
in the back of my mind
knowing they should be
gone
not knowing how
to make it so
